Katie edits my work. She is really good. But I need to give her more work to edit. We had an arrangement a few years ago whereby I would send her a daily email with the subject line: accountability. The content included what I had read and what writing I had accomplished the day before. Simple. Short. It worked. Then the emails faded and, over time, so did the writing and the reading. Deadly if you are a writer. Actually, are you really a writer if you don’t write and read most every day?
I have at least a half dozen projects in the pipeline and at least two more that have a once a month deadline. The stack of books to read is taller than I am. I used to read the Lord of the Rings Trilogy once a year. I don’t remember the last time I’ve done that. Reading propels the writing.
So, I asked Katie if she would be game to pick up the accountability emails again. She said yes. Check back here in a month or so and I’ll let you know how it’s going. If you struggle to do the work as I too often do, maybe there is someone in your world you can ask to hold you accountable. Give it a try and see if it works for you.
