BREN DUBAY

Coming Home to Write

We in the Department of Theater, Communication & Media Arts, consider ourselves so fortunate that a theater artist, practitioner and playwright of Bren Dubay’s accomplishments and stature has landed in our area.  The courses in playwriting she has taught for us have added a breadth and richness to our programming that our students would otherwise never have had the opportunity to experience.  Being able to produce her plays with her in residence and enjoy her performances in our productions has expanded our model of professional practice vital to our student’s development.  During my tenure as chair for region 4 of the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, it was terrific to engage Bren as a respondent for the National Playwriting Program, expanding both our regional and national profile. Bren has the rare combination of genuine demonstrated talent in her own work and the ability to foster, with compassion and understanding, like talents in young students.
